Ive been a 1/6 figure collector for a good 15 years. But something I had always missed was some decent evil dead figures, but in 2011 I came across a figure forum where a guy was selling custom made evil dead stuff like heads, chainsaws, shotguns, books, clothes, even shoes and not just from evil dead 2 but AOD aswell. As soon as I saw this I made an account and scoured the sales section and managed to grab a second hand headsculpt, thats where I started my many years long journey of learning how to paint, sew, glue and weather. At first I sucked but you have to start somewhere. Instead of just showing my current customs Ive decided to show my progress in making evil dead figures and end with my current collection.

So back in 2011 18 year old me made my first custom figure. The figure sucked and everything was wrong, I used the very oversized sideshow AOD chainsaw and shotgun (the shotgun is still a great shotgun). The harness was just random leather strips, the clothes were way to baggy. But the best part of it was the sculpt. I still hadn't learnt to paint properly so the sculpt while not up to todays standards was pretty good back then. I also sucked at taking photos.001-1.jpg

Then about 2 months later I purchased an unpainted version of the sculpt, the one on the right is the one I "attempted" to paint. The figures still have all the same problems, baggy clothes, bad weathering, still the crappy chainsaws and I still can't take a clear photo.100_5686.jpg

After that I only made attempts at hero ash customs from the fight with Henrietta. The next one wasnt a huge improvement but I tried to get some tighter pants, I think these were too tight though. This figure was 5 months after the previous.P1280111.jpg

Then around 2013 my big brother moved back in and it turned out he had also been making 1/6 figures, when it came to painting he was already a natural so I gave up on learning to paint and put more effort into all the other stuff. This figure has a big difference from the last, custom clothes, pantjob from my brother and a much better made harness. I also put together a deadite ash also painted by my brother. Sidenote the hero ash sculpt was made by someone other than the other sculpts but I cannot remember who.P7280175.jpg P7280177.jpg P7280179.jpg P7280164.jpg

I had these 2 for around a year but I unfortunately had to sell them to pay the bills. Then after I had saved some cash I made another one, the last evil dead 2 custom ive made. It had a better sculpt (still painted by my brother) a more accurate, better colored harness made by someone else and a better outfit.P5170043_zps732ff56e.JPGP5170039_zps6ec710e2 (1).JPG

Then around 2015 sideshow teased an evil dead 2 ash figure. It resulted in me selling my custom and ordering the sideshow one, which definitely had some problems mine in partucular had a damaged arm. I ended up doing some smaller things to the figure like more rips, added a sock and a bit more weathering to some bigger things like splicing the body up. The body is a mix of the sideshow body with the arms and lower torso of a hot toys tony stark body, mainly to fix the damaged arm but also the body is too muscular for bruce campbell. I also removed the the chainsaw blade and chain then sanded the blade down to its bare metal and gave it some slight weathering and lastly I tried to make the pulley actually move but it didnt really work. This is my current evil dead 2 ash and in my opinion is the best one ive owned.

My next custom was made this year out of stuff I already had in my parts bin, head, neck and hands painted by my brother I did all the clothing mods as well as weathering and I repainted the mechanical hand. Its not finished, I still need to do a few small things and try to find the right material for a cape and find another sideshow evil dead 2 chainsaw.

Here's my least finished custom again painted by my brother, I made the harness and I modded an evil dead 2 sideshow chainsaw (it was missing the black handle and the pull string when I purchased it, I Also sanded and polished the blade). I still need to finish the harness and make the wrist part of the power glove. Im very lucky to have a brother that loves painting.

Ive since pulled apart my aved and evil dead 2 custom figures as I wasn't happy with them, going to try and completely redo them but its sort of a trial and error thing to see what body and clothing looks and fits the best, its unfortunately taking longer than id hoped as these aint cheap.
