Welcome to this week's Ash vs Evil Dead episode discussion thread!  Some additional ground rules to the basic ones on the forum for those who want to participate:

1: This and all future threads will be a choose to warn experience; IE you will not need to use spoiler bars to talk about things that happened in this and previous episodes.

2: It is, however, advisable to use spoiler bars if you want to talk about spoilers for an unaired episode.

3: Please be respectful of the opinions of your fellow Deadites; some people may not love the episode as much as you do; some may love it more.  Discussion and debate are good things.

Last week's thread

So Ash combined the chainsaw arm with what was left of the game boy arm. I like it!

NEW CLIP
http://www.tvinsider.com/article/61915/ash-vs-evil-dead-ash-face-worst-fears-and-twin-video/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=tvi

Were to start with this clip.

-Kelly punching a nun, which we don't know quite clearly who through the first punch in that confrontation.

-Pablo's only friend until he was 9 was a kitty cat.

-The racist joke's were actually quite funny in this.

I knew this scene was coming. They were obviously setting it up all throughout the last episode, with Amanda cutting off Evil Ash's hand, Ash getting his stump hurt and both of them conveniently getting the exact same cut on their cheek in separate scenes. The writers don't seem to think we'll notice this kinda stuff. They either think we're stupid, don't know how to do better or they don't care, but that's some contrived writing right there. Eh... The scene is kind of a cliche and I'm still not happy with the sitcom humor they're doing on the show, but the scene actually looks good in execution even if it's too predictable and it has been done a hundred times before. I honestly think this episode will actually be better than last week's and last week's was already the best one so far, so it's looking good. They're stepping up.

Yes, a bit too contrived... but I like the scene.

I wonder how it would be possible to work out the difference between them. I would think Bad Ash would have access to the same memories, after all. Mind you, I would think the same of other deadites too. When Kelly got possessed, Ash caught out the demon when it said "Please bury me with a cross." Then again I got the impression it didn't really care that much.

I like the new hand adaptation too. More practical than swapping them back and forth...

I really loved hearing the little detail's that they threw in about pablo and kelly's past, i really wanna know more about this confrontation kelly had with this nun and pablo's cat, it told so much about pablo's character in just that little detail and really put him and ash friendship in perspective for me.

Even they know those campers are deadite fodder.

Hm. Seems to me they just want to compensate for all the humor they didn't have in the previous episode. Well, we'll see.

Same feeling I got. It's already deflating my expectations a little bit.

The clips are cool, and I don't think they are trying to make up for anything... but to show that the crew are having a damn good time on this show. The exchange between Ash, Kelly, and Pablo about the hikers was pretty amusing.

Sorry, but I honestly have no idea what the two of you are going on about. Who said anything about The Walking Dead and what does that got to do with anything?

It is a few clever little comments made by the Ghostbeater gang while standing on the porch (not porch dick) before the shit really hits the fan in what is certain to be a bloody good episode with a ton of action. I'm not sure how it could have deflated your expectations any when Ash is being Ash, Kelly is playing up to him, and Pablo is being his normal awesome self.

I never said I didn't want humor. I love AoD and it's pretty humorous. I also said that the moment with the deadite bird on the last episode was one of my favorites in the show and it's just a visual gag meant to make you laugh. No, Evil Dead is not meant to be completely serious. It's just that the type of humor seen in that clip is not what I usually associate with Evil Dead and personally, I don't think it's all that clever or even very funny. To me, it feels more like a writer trying too hard to be funny. Also, that scene feels particularly weird at this point in the story. Last episode raised the stakes and tension, but now everybody is already back at cracking jokes once again like they don't care about what's going on around them. Also, all of the characters on that scene are acting incredibly dumb. Why are they even considering escorting the hikers away from the cabin? Why is that scene even in the episode? My only guess is that it's there to give us more of Kelly being jealous of the blonde girl and "clever" dialogue, but I still don't care one bit about any of that. Basically, there's nothing in that scene that I like or wanted to see in an Evil Dead TV series. That's why my expectations were deflated. I was just expecting a different vibe from this episode. I'm sorry if I couldn't make myself clearer in my other post, it's just that I was trying not to say too much negative stuff about it before the episode even airs. My opinion about this episode is entirely based on these two very short clips, cause obviously, I haven't seen it yet. My opinion might change when I have more context and it might not bother me as much when I see the rest of the episode. I still think it has the potential for being the best episode in the series, but I lowered my expectations a little bit.

And I still fail to see what any of this has got to do with The Walking Dead. I'm just assuming that what you guys meant is that you think we want the show to be dead serious and more like TWD, and that couldn't be further from the truth. I want humor, but I also want the stakes to matter and the show to sustain tension and atmosphere every now and then instead of giving it all up for lighter moments and funny dialogue every chance they get. I didn't see anybody comparing the two shows or saying that AvED should be more like TWD in any way, shape or form. Kain is the only one who keeps bringing TWD into the discussion. They're two completely different shows with two completely different styles, and in my personal opinion, both of them have a lot of problems in the writing department.

Actually i found this scene to be quite enjoyable actually, they were functioning as a team and trying to come up with plan to get the hiker's away from the cabin safely, while granted the plan is really dangerous and pretty dumb in the first place(and judging by the preview for this episode, it isn't going to work out too well for the hikers nor pablo and kelly but i have a feeling that's were ruby is going to come in at) but when was this team good about coming up with plan's in the first place, the only sensible person in this group is probably pablo but even he has his own faults as well, i have a feeling once ruby get's there, shit is probably going to die down in the smart-ass department and there going to get shit done.

PREDICTION

I think ash is probably going to be heading back inside and chopping up evil ash and probably burying him outside, the slice and dicing line make's it seem like that will be the case here.

I liked the scene and found it amusing. Sure, the interplay between the characters is a bit different from the films, but then we haven't really had Ash in this kind of relationship with other characters before. In the first film (and the start of the second, which I really count as the same time period anyway) he is with long-standing friends who come across the Evil for the first time.

In the second and third he has other characters quickly dumped on him.

In the series, he has come into the situation as a veteran and built up a camaraderie with his companions over time. Different situation. Different kind of dialogue.

It does trouble me a bit that they are so light hearted just after the death of Amanda last episode though. Okay, they didn't know her that well, but after spending even a little bit of time alongside someone on a friendly basis, then seeing that happen to them, it's all rather quick for them to go into light-hearted mode. But then again, maybe they're becoming rather numb to it all. Or the joking and bravado is a way of compensating.

I'll admit, I wouldn't mind the tone to shift a bit closer to Evil Dead 2, but it's not that far off really. The series is good on it's own terms, in my opinion.

Anyway, I haven't really seen anything that will spoil* this episode for me.

*Spoil in the literal sense of the word. Not in the 'spoilers' sense.

Oh, and there was humour last episode. Just of the very darkest variety.

I get people's point though. The humour here is of a different variety. I found the interplay with Ash and Kelly rather cute though.
